Enchanting yourself

The world does not respond to who you are. It responds to who you believe yourself to be.

We all know that attractiveness is powerful in this world. Its importance reveals itself in many ways: through attracting romantic partners, gaining social status, increasing visibility, or what many call "pretty privilege." Our admiration of beauty is woven deeply into human history.

But did you know that we have the ability to enhance our attractiveness through a magickal practice?

First, understand that the most influential form of attractiveness is presence.

Attractiveness holds power in this world because perception holds power. You can look at two individuals with identical physical appearances, yet perceive them entirely differently. Perhaps one's posture embodies insecurity, their attitude is a pollutant, or their energy is dull. Whereas, the other radiates confidence, speaks with intention, and moves with grace. Which of the two would you find more attractive?

When you shift how you perceive yourself, others begin to perceive you differently as well. Confidence, posture, and intention all act as extensions of your energy.

Before glamour was about beauty, it was about enchantment — the art of shaping perception. Glamour magick is the practice of transforming your inner world — your thoughts, energy, and self-perception into outward beauty and attraction. It is the discovery of your magnetism, and the embodiment of it.

The reason we use the word magick instead of magic is because we are distinguishing spiritual or ritual magic from stage magic.

There are many ways to practice glamour magick, but I want to share some of the methods I personally love.

Let's begin with understanding color magick.

Color carries intention. Each holds symbolic meaning and has the ability to evoke certain emotions, perceptions, and energetic responses.

Lighting colored candles around your space during meditation, ritual, or even while getting ready for the day can be a powerful way to anchor your intentions. You can also dress or apply your makeup in colors aligned with the outcome you wish to embody.

Now, let's talk about herbal magick.

Herbs have been used for spiritual, medicinal, and ritual purposes for thousands of years across many cultures. Therefore, working with the natural world has been rooted in long traditions.

A core belief in herbal magick is that each plant holds intentional properties, carrying natural energies and correspondences. When we combine personal intention with the natural properties of these plants, we align ourselves with certain outcomes.

Magickal Properties of Common Herbs

Rose - Love, beauty, emotional healing.

Lavender - Peace, love, relaxation, sleep, spiritual cleansing.

Chamomile - Luck, abundance, peace, success.

Cinnamon - Power, love, luck, prosperity, passion.

Bay Leaf - Purification, manifestation, psychic awareness.

Use for: Writing wishes or intentions on the leaves and burning them.

Mugwort - Intuition, dreams, psychic awareness.

Use for: Dream work, enhancing intuition or divination.

Thyme - Courage, strength, healing.

Use for: Bravery, confidence, restoring personal energy.

Basil - Prosperity, protection, good fortune, love.

Catnip - Love, attraction, happiness, friendship, playful energy.

These correspondences come from traditional folk practices and modern witchcraft traditions.

It is especially important to respectfully harvest and practice with herbs. Mother earth has provided us with these elements. Therefore, we should always thank her for her plants before picking them, and using them. Acknowledging our connection with the natural world is not only enhancing our respect for nature, but ourselves too. We are all one, emerging from the same source — mother earth.

You can think of herbal magick as an intuitive and personal practice. The more you work with their magickal properties, you will find yourself building relationships with the plants. Perhaps, you will include certain plants into your practice that wouldn't typically be used for your intentions. You will feel drawn to them, despite the traditional correspondences. Therefore, make sure to always listen to your intuition. By doing so, you are enhancing the outcomes you desire.

By combining color magick and herbal magick, we can create some powerful spells and rituals to bring forth our desires.

Let's practice a glamour magick ritual to enhance our beauty & confidence right now!

Begin by finding a quiet, comfortable space, preferably in nature to sit on the ground.

I recommend cleansing yourself and your space by using smoke from herbs like palo santo, cedar, mugwort, lavender, or frankincense resin in order to ground yourself in the moment.

* Please be mindful of the ethical and cultural use of herbs such as palo santo and white sage, especially if you are a non-Native practitioner.*

Close your eyes, find your mind's eye, and imagine a gold or white light emerging from the ground, filling your entire body, wrapping its warmth around you.

Imagine that the warmth from this light feels like the purest form of love. And that now, you are embodying this state of love.

You can add in affirmations, such as:

"I am love, I am light."

"I deserve the purest of love."

"My beauty is one of a kind."

"I love myself unconditionally."

Once you feel yourself fully radiating this love and light, you can continue on with other practices and rituals.

Here are some of my favorite, simple rituals:

Anoint a candle with oil and dress it in herbs before lighting it as you get ready for your day, take a bath, or meditate.

Use: Pink, red, or white candle. Orange essential oil, rose essential oil, or Lavender essential oil. Rose petals, lavender, rosemary, cinnamon, and/or catnip. You can also place rose quartz, amethyst, or rhodonite around the candle.

Enchant your jewelry with intentions by cleansing each piece with smoke before holding it into your hands, and speaking affirmations aloud. Afterwards, you can place it near an anointed candle, or under the moonlight.

Use: Rose, lavender, and/or cinnamon incense.

Create a spell jar by combining an assortment of herbs, oils, crystals, objects & more. Remember to always cleanse your materials beforehand. Once all elements are in your jar, seal it with candle wax before placing it on your altar, under the moonlight, or sunlight. After your spell has brought forth your desire, take all of the biodegradable elements out of your jar and bury it in nature (preferably near your house). Make sure to save reusable items, such as crystals and jars.

Use: Pink, red, orange, or white candle. Himalayan pink salt, bay leaf with written intentions on it, preferably in red or pink ink. (Example: "My beauty radiates confidence.") Rose buds or petals, lavender, catnip, chamomile, cinnamon, rosemary. Rose quartz, amethyst, rhodonite, carnelian, citrine.

Write a love letter to yourself and then burn it. When using fire, you are quite literally changing something from one form to another. Therefore, fire is typically used to bring forth transformations. You can also write your intention or manifestations on a bay leaf before burning it.

Use: Paper or bay leaf, red ink, fire.

Anoint yourself with intention oils and perfumes by holding it in your hands, and charging it by saying your intentions/affirmations aloud. Place it under the moonlight, and apply on your neck, wrists, behind ears, or inner elbows.

Or, my glamour magick perfume oil — Essence of the Empress — is available on my Etsy shop for those ready to embody their magnetism.

Each bottle is charged with intentional affirmations and infused with herbs known for their enchanting properties. This blend features notes of rose for love and allure, vanilla for warmth and attraction, lavender for beauty and grace, and orange for confidence and radiance. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
