To Live as Grace Among Thorns

The energy we possess is sacred, yet its divinity is often forgotten—for it is known not by the eyes, but by the soul. And despite its unseen nature, its effects are deeply felt.

If you often find yourself feeling drained, frustrated, or unsettled without a clear reason, it is not without cause. You are moving through life without considering the energy you absorb.

So, how do we become aware of something we cannot see?

Let’s begin by placing our energy into perspective:

Imagine it as a bubble—a transparent sphere surrounding you at all times. This is your energetic boundary.

It reflects the colors of the world, mirroring the energies within your environment. And as these energies gather along its surface, they cast their hues onto your skin before passing through its fragile layer.

With this understanding, you are constantly absorbing the energy you encounter.

You begin to wonder what exactly the purpose of this bubble is, if it does not exist to protect you from all of the world's energies.

What you have yet to realize is this:

it is not the bubble’s role to protect you—it is your responsibility to protect it.

To protect your bubble, you must become aware of the energy you allow to pass through.

Bubble Depeletion I: People Pleasing

One of the quickest ways to weaken your bubble is through something known as people-pleasing. This is the habit of prioritizing others' needs above your own—often driven by a lack of self-worth and the fear of rejection or conflict.

The excessive apologizing, the self-sacrifice, the absence of boundaries—this is not selflessness; it is the abandonment of the self.

Take a moment to reflect on your own experiences with people-pleasing.

Perhaps there was a moment when you avoided saying “no,” even though everything within you was urging you to.

Now, ask yourself:

  • What was I trying to avoid or gain in that moment?
  • Was abandoning my boundaries truly worth it?

Be honest. Because if not—

how long will you continue to shrink yourself until you become the perfect doormat?

Through people-pleasing, you are quite literally handing others the pin to pierce your bubble. You surrender your protection and become a hollow vessel for whatever energy—dark or light.

Bubble Depletion II: Passiveness

Another way to deplete your bubble is through accepting disrespect, abuse, or any form of mistreatment. This, too, can show up as a form of people-pleasing.

The people you surround yourself with are the most consistent sources of the energy you absorb.

So, ask yourself—your friends, your family, your partner—how do they treat you?

And especially play close attention to how they treat others. Gossip, judgement, spreading rumors—these are not isolated behaviors. Therefore, do not assume you are exempt from the energy they so easily give to others.

It is vital to ensure we are surrounding ourselves with positive people. Otherwise, your bubble remains under constant threat, absorbing negativity that isn't yours to carry.

Bubble Depletion III: Energetic Vampires

While negativity often appears before our eyes, it can also exist beneath our awareness. Manipulative and deceitful energies can be tricky, weakening your bubble without you even realizing it.

Therefore, you must learn to trust how you feel—emotionally and intuitively.

As mentioned from the beginning, your body will often recognize what your mind has not yet processed. If something feels heavy, draining, or unsettling, honor that signal by stepping back, setting boundaries, and choosing what is worthy of entering your space.

So, how do we restore our bubble after it has been weakened?

There are so many ways to replenish your energy.

For a quick energetic cleanse, you may use herbal incense—allowing the smoke to cleanse both your body and your space.

Meditation is especially powerful. Ground yourself in nature and reconnect with your energy through intentional breathing.

You can also move energy through your body—through dancing, exercise, or yoga. Or express it through art, music, writing, and other creations.

But perhaps the most powerful method is this:
to transform your energy into something that empowers you—through emotional alchemy.

(More information about emotional alchemy can be found in my other post).

To live as grace among thorns is a choice of sovereignty.

It is the understanding that while the world may be sharp, your softness is a sanctuary that only you have the power to protect.
